Think Romania.

You’re likely to think of orphanages, adoptions and the startling living conditions of a people suffering under the reigns of a communist dictator. That was the reality reported in the pages of major papers following the execution of dictator Nicolae Ceausescu nearly 20 years ago.

But little has been reported on Romania’s current reality. That’s where project Romania Revisited comes in.

We, Sommer Saadi and Lindsey Perkins, are traveling to Romania to report on the current conditions of the orphanages. We’ll use the written word, photo essays and audio slideshows to effectively and truthfully tell the stories.

ROMANIA REVISITED is a project to reexamine the conditions of the orphanages in Romania nearly 20 years after the fall of communism. We are two journalists on a mission to report the news. No matter the distance. We’re going to travel the countryside. Visit several orphanages. Take pictures. Conduct interviews. Gather audio. Passionately pursue the stories. And tell them truthfully. Follow along for the ride.
